![]() ![]() The man who will not be held accountable for any of his misdeeds and mistakes and misrepresentations has been miraculously transformed into an honest, above board and trustworthy leader. Karl Rove, hand in hand with the media, did wonders with the lies, the illegalities and the secrets of the real George Bush and company. GEORGE BUSH THE STRAIGHT-SHOOTER was the best trick of all. It is vital that the American voter be startled back into reality and realizes what in the world has happened. It is his uncanny skill at selling voters an imaginary product that has to be exposed. It is Rove’s ability to create a man who does not exist that sets him apart as the master magician. But George Bush has not been packaged he has – in fact - been invented. Standard operating procedure puts the candidate’s best foot forward and disguises or hides his flaws. The presidency is often packaged for public consumption. Had he been a political strategist, he might have had a serious competitor in Karl Rove. ![]() Luckily, Houdini was a performer and an entertainer. He was the grand master of illusion that defied one’s senses and betrayed one’s reason. He could make people believe what they knew was not so, and swear to it. And that, in a strange way, may explain how in the world tens of millions of people have been taken in by Karl Rove. I’m truly convinced that the people of this country want to believe that good things can happen, because that makes life far more livable. It’s not that Americans are unintelligent or naïve, it’s just that we’re so extraordinarily hopeful. Catheter days did not decrease in the post-intervention however, there was earlier catheter removal and zero occurrences of CAUTIs in the post-intervention group.Ĭonclusion: Implementation of the evidence-based nurse-driven protocol IUCR-HOUDINI in the SCI unit promoted earlier catheter removal, improved patient outcomes related to CAUTIs, and empowered nurses to manage a patient’s IUC more effectively.Current News | Contact | Donate | Shop | Search | Free Flyers Outcome:Pre-and post-implementation data for IUC days and CAUTI rates were evaluated using descriptive statistics. Intervention:The registered nurses used the Indwelling Urinary Catheter Removal (IUCR) HOUDINI nurse-driven protocol to assess whether patients met the criteria to have their indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) removed and bladder training initiated. Each day a catheter remains in place, the risk of CAUTI increases. PICOT:The PICOT question that guided this project was: In adult SCI patients (P), does the implementation of a nurse-driven indwelling urinary catheter removal protocol (I), compared to without a nurse-driven protocol (C), decrease the indwelling urinary catheter days and the occurrence of CAUTIs (O) within six weeks (T)? Evidence: Nurse-driven discontinuation protocols are an effective method of decreasing indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) days and CAUTI rates. Practice Problem:Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients have many negative health consequences, including increased cost, increased length of hospital stays, delay in bladder training, increased associated infections, and mortality. ![]()
